UK Oil And Gas Workers Enjoy High Wages: A Closer Look

Workers in the UK oil and gas industry are among the best-paid in the global sector. A typical worker on a North Sea rig earns approximately £540 per day, while director-level professionals can command around £900 daily, as reported by the recruitment group Hays. These figures highlight not just the lucrative nature of the industry but also the increasing demand for skilled labor in challenging environments.

Full-time professionals in the UK oil sector earn an average salary of £55,850 a year, which is more than double the national average of £26,244. This disparity underscores the value placed on skilled labor in this field and the ongoing demand for expertise as the industry continues to evolve.

Matt Underhill, Managing Director of Hays Oil & Gas, noted, "Last year, we reported a 30% rise in contractor wages for UK professionals. This is particularly encouraging for UK-based oil and gas specialists, as contractor rates are often a reliable indicator of the job market's health, responding more quickly to shifts in demand for skills."

Furthermore, Hays pointed out that wages in the UK oil and gas sector are about 8% higher than the global average, indicating the competitive landscape for talent. The company anticipates that strong demand will persist through 2012 as activities in the North Sea ramp up, firmly positioning the UK as a key player in the global oil and gas industry.
